When there is a chill in the air, there's nothing more comforting than a crackling fire...
Why Wood?
Wood can be an effective and economical source of heat. The key is burning it in a high efficiency stove. When operated correctly with good quality wood fuel, EPA wood appliances produce almost no visible smoke and their emissions are only slightly higher than those of a conventional oil furnace.
Check for 20% Moisture or Less
Wet firewood boils when it burns. With wet wood, it can be harder to get a fire going and more difficult to keep it burning. Wet firewood also produces a fire with little heat. Use a wood moisture meter to check.
